Staff News

The Corsham Primary stork has been flying over us again and we are super-delighted to announce that Mrs Jones and her husband are expecting their first baby next March. Huge congratulations to the Jones family. After half term, we are very delighted to be welcoming Miss Kristin Hull and Miss Ellie Casey to our staff team. They are joining us as Speech & Language Teaching Assistants and we hope they will settle quickly and happily into the Corsham Primary family. At the end of term, we sadly say goodbye to Mrs Catherine Painter; we would like to thank her for her dedication and help working with our children at Broadwood over the last couple of years and wish her well in the future.

From beachcombing to stargazing, from watching squirrels, ducks and worms to making a winter bird feast, this is a remarkable book – part poetry, part scrapbook of recipes, facts and fragments – and a glorious reminder that the natural world is on our doorstep waiting to be discovered. This lyrical book captures the simple loveliness that is everywhere, if only we look.

Nicola Davies, the award-winning author of A First Book of Nature, presents a spellbinding treasury of poems about the animal world, illustrated in breath-taking detail. Polar bears playing on the ice, tigers hunting in the jungle, fireflies twinkling in the evening sky and nightingales singing in the heart of the woods – there are animals everywhere. From blue whales to bumblebee bats and everything in between, A First Book of Animals takes you all over the planet to visit all kinds of different creatures. This book is a glorious celebration of life in the wild in all its variety and splendour.

All over the country, there are words disappearing from children's lives. These are the words of the natural world; Dandelion, Otter, Bramble and Acorn, all gone. A wild landscape of imagination and play is rapidly fading from our children's minds. The Lost Words stands against the disappearance of wild childhood. It is a joyful celebration - in art and word - of nearby nature and its wonders. With acrostic spell-poems by award-winning writer Robert Macfarlane and illustrations by Jackie Morris, this enchanting book evokes the irreplaceable magic of language and nature for all ages.

Outdoor Learning

Outdoor Learning is an umbrella term which covers every type of learning outdoors. This could be adventurous activities, environmental education, team challenges, playground games and story time, to name but a few! At Corsham Primary, we appreciate the potential for learning outside and the benefit this brings in the short and long term to the wellbeing of our children. To this end, we endeavour to teach outside as regularly as the inclement weather allows!

Please ensure, therefore, that your child comes to school with a coat and outdoor shoes EVERY day so that we can use our amazing outdoor spaces at any time, during any subject learning.

Sometimes the best classroom learning is in one without a ceiling!

PTA, PTA, PTA …

Parents and carers needed to join the Corsham Primary School PTA.

The PTA’s AGM will be held on Thursday 13 October at 8pm via Google Meets

Please do support the PTA; you do not have to commit to anything at the meetings but it is lovely if you join in to listen to what we do. New members are made very welcome.

Harvest Contributions

We will be celebrating harvest in our school assemblies during the week of 10 October.. We would be very grateful for any donations this week, which will be given to the Corsham Food Bank.

Thank you.

Tuck Reminder

We are very conscious that we have a number of pupils across both sites who suffer with various food allergies. It is really important that our school community understands the importance of abiding by the playtime healthy tuck.

Just in case you have forgotten, we request that only plain biscuits or fruit are brought into school. Previously, some children have been bringing in yoghurt tubes, breakfast bars, cheese strings etc that may have been in contact with, or contain nuts/dairy/egg. All these items contain elements that could cause an allergic reaction in children who suffer from anaphylaxis. Due to the fact that we cannot control every child’s movements on the playground and the risk of an accident is high, we have instructed staff to remove ANY tuck that does not comply with the school rule in order to safeguard our medically vulnerable children.

As parents and carers yourselves we know you will empathise with the families of those children who suffer from allergies and ensure that you will support this by sending in the Inviting Volunteer Readers—if you would like to volunteer appropriate tuck.

Inviting Volunteer Readers—if you would like to volunteer appropriate tuck. to come in and regularly listen to children read, please contact your child’s teacher. If you have DBS clearance, please would you let us know. If not, we can organise this.

Thank you
